Avatar box office update reveals Fire & Ash opened even higher as Disney nears $6B worldwide
Per Deadline, James Cameron's sci-fi fantasy sequel had a domestic box office opening of $89 million after Sunday's haul came in at $24.5 million, higher than the $23 million Disney had called it at. Worldwide, Fire and Ash opened to $347 million, up from the $345 million figure reported on Sunday.

The graph shows that this week Avatar: Fire and Ash hit its highest popularity of the year while Avengers: Doomsday peaked at a meager 10 last week. Since then its popularity has dropped to a level of just six despite a new trailer dropping every week over the next month.
"Pre-Covid, everybody thought the Chinese box office was going to be the savior of Hollywood," one international executive said. "Post-Covid, that has all changed."
Avatar returned to theaters with Fire and Ash on December 19. James Cameron crafted this third chapter for the big screens, with a 3D experience in mind. That message has been crystal clear from the very beginning, from both Cameron and the distributors, 20th Century Studios, which Disney owns.
The third “Avatar” movie has also grossed over $257 million in international markets, for a combined total of $345 million.
