In a major announcement that could shape the future of Indian cricket, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Shreyas Iyer has been appointed captain of India's T20 side, while teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has received his maiden call-up to the national team.
India will tour Ireland for a two-match T20I series at Belfast, scheduled on June 26 and June 28, 2026. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new T20I skipper of the Indian side, succeeding Suryakumar Yadav.
Suryakumar Yadav’s reign as India T20I captain ends with the successful T20 World Cup title defence at home soil in March, with Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer succeeding ‘SKY’ in the role going forward.
Shreyas Iyer has been named as the new captain of the India T20I team with Tilak Varma being his vice-captain. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets his India call-up for the Ireland and England tour. Jasprit Bumrah is included for the Asian Games squad.
