Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty will not compete in the 150th Preakness Stakes on May 17. Because of this decision, there will be no Triple Crown winner this year, but Sovereignty will prepare to run the Belmont Stakes in June.

Sovereignty was the 8-5 favorite leading up to the confirmed field for the Preakness and was obviously expected to be a strong contender. According to The Courier-Journal, Bill Mott, Sovereignty's trainer,

The second jewel in the Triple Crown will run on May 17. We will provide updates as horses are announced for the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico.
