A backcountry skier was killed Tuesday after being caught in an avalanche near Red Mountain Pass in southwestern Colorado. The avalanche happened on a northwest-facing slope at an elevation of around 11,300 feet in an area known locally as Bollywood, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center .

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) is reporting the first avalanche death of the year. This incident happened on Jan. 7th on Red Mountain number 3, east of Telluride, which is locally known as Bollywood. The avalanche occurred on a northwest-facing slope around 11,300 feet.
