Gusts of 174km/h have been recorded in Mace Head as Storm Éowyn batters Ireland. Hurricane force mean speeds of 135km/h were also recorded in Mace Head, breaking the mean wind speed record of 131 km/h set in 1945 at Foynes, Limerick.

Met Eireann issued a series of Red Weather Warnings for all of Ireland that came into effect at various times through Friday morning. Red Weather Warnings are extremely dangerous and destructive and pose a danger to life. Record wind speeds have been recorded from Storm Eoghan and already over 500,000 homes in Ireland are without power.

Storm Éowyn has the "potential to be very destructive," Met Éireann said while issuing its Status Red weather warnings. Check here for the Status Red, Status Yellow, and Status Orange weather warnings coming into effect for Ireland this week.

As of 9am on Thursday, there are eight Red Weather Warnings in place from Met Eireann. There is also a Status Orange Wind Warning for all of Ireland from midnight until 4pm tomorrow. The Status Red Weather Warnings are as follows.

Met Eireann said "gale force southerly winds becoming westerly will bring severe, damaging and destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h"

The Status Red Wind Warning for Laois from Storm Éowyn has lifted at 11am but an Orange Warning remains in place. Gardaí are urging people to exercise extreme caution if they do venture out as there is debris and downed trees and potentially powerlines across the county.
