Venus Williams enjoyed a winning return to competitive tennis after 16 months away as she reached the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles at the DC Open alongside Hailey Baptiste.

Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams, who returned to tennis after a long break of 16 months, has secured a win at DC Open in women`s doubles category. During the match, Venus partnered up with Hailey Baptiste to dominate Canada`s Eugenie Bouchard and US teen Clervie Ngounoue by 6-3,

Williams is scheduled to make her return in the singles competition, where she will face Cincinnati-native Peyton Stearns. Stearns is currently ranked 35th by the WTA, as opposed to her career high of #28. Stearns attended the University of Texas where she won a NCAA Singles crown and back-to-back NCAA team titles.
