The NFC playoff picture shifted a bit on Thursday night, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Atlanta Falcons. Tampa ceded the top spot in the NFC South with the loss and saw its playoff chances take a hit.
Broncos, Patriots, Jaguars, Steelers lead AFC; Rams, Packers, Seahawks top NFC with wild-card races tightening.
The Lions took a hard hit to their playoff chances with their 41-34 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 15. Detroit now sits at 8-6 with three weeks left and finds itself two games back in the NFC North and 1.5 back in the Wild Card race.
The Denver Broncos took over sole possession of the No. 1 seed in the AFC with their win over Green Bay Sunday and could secure the AFC West title with a win over Jacksonville in Week 16 and a loss by the Los Angeles Chargers.
The NFC North is through 15 weeks of the regular season. Three weeks remain, and the race for the division crown will come down to the regular season’s final game. Last week, Chicago reclaimed the NFC North’s top spot with a convincing win over Cleveland.
All of that can happen as soon as Dec. 20 if the Eagles beat the Washington Commanders (4-10) at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. If the Eagles lose, they can clinch the division the next day with a Cowboys loss to the Los Angeles Chargers (10-4) in Arlington, Texas.
