A newly-elected German mayor named her daughter as the suspected assailant after a knife attack left the political leader in critical condition.

The election in Frankfurt an der Oder is between independent candidate Axel Strasser and AfD contender Wilko Moller.

Six candidates from Germany’s far-right AfD party have died in recent weeks ahead of local elections in North Rhine Westphalia. Police have said there is no suggestion of foul play behind the deaths.
