Dangerous Severe Thunderstorm Outbreak Unfolds As Tornadoes, Hail Hammer Multiple States
We followed along Tuesday as violent storms unleashed tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds across parts of the Plains, Midwest and South.
Wind gusts over 70 mph, hail bigger than baseballs and strong tornadoes are all possible from these storms.
"All severe hazards are possible, including the risk for a few strong to intense tornadoes and very large hail," the Storm Prediction Center said.
New attribution research shows how extra heat in the atmosphere can turn thunderstorms into factories for dangerous, softball-size hail.
Starting this month, the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center will add a new layer to its severe weather outlooks.
A multi-day storm system will bring rounds of severe weather from the southern Plains into the Midwest and Ohio Valley through Friday.
