Years later, Whittingham would serve as defensive coordinator at Utah for two seasons under Urban Meyer, who turned his short-but-successful tenure in Salt Lake City into the Florida job and, eventually, Ohio State. Meyer won three national titles along the way and kept in contact with Whittingham, who would take over the Utah job after he left.
