SoftBank is in talks to invest in OpenAI, potentially deepening the relationship between the two companies that are already planning an artificial-intelligence infrastructure initiative.

OpenAI is in talks to raise as much as $40 billion in a funding round led by SoftBank Group Corp., according to people familiar with the matter. The ChatGPT maker is in discussions to raise funds at a valuation of up to $340 billion,

SoftBank would lead $40 billion round for the ChatGPT maker, some of which would go to Stargate AI infrastructure venture.

The report comes three months after SoftBank backed a $6.6 billion funding round for OpenAI at a $157 billion valuation. That the former company is reportedly seeking to invest again at a significantly higher valuation suggests it’s optimistic about OpenAI’s growth prospects.
