Beachgoers in Monmouth County found an unlikely friend near the Shark River inlet last weekend. A manatee was spotted swimming in a lagoon Saturday, thousands of miles away from its native habitat.
Monmouth County voters approved an increase in the county open space tax on Nov. 4 by a two-to-one margin, a move that will raise taxes to buy more land for parks and enhance existing green spaces.
On Nov. 14, the Monmouth County Board of Commissioners awarded grants to 27 Monmouth towns to make park improvements.
