Increased solar flare activity over the last few days will cause the northern horizon to light up for many states.
This phenomenon is most commonly seen in polar regions, but during geomagnetic storms, the auroras can extend further south. The recent storm forecasted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) suggests that the Northern Lights may be visible as far south as Washington to Maine.
A geomagnetic storm will expand visibility of the aurora borealis Thursday and Friday nights. See maps of which states will get to see the northern lights.
