CLEVELAND, Ohio — Major League Baseball, in agreement with the MLB Players Association, announced Friday that it will extend the leave of absence for Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz through Aug. 31, while continuing its investigation into gambling allegations involving Ortiz.

Cleveland Guardians relievers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz had their lockers cleaned out in the team clubhouse.

Both Guardians pitchers were placed on leave in July, related to an ongoing investigation into gambling by Major League Baseball.
