The United States will not take over Greenland, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said after arriving on Wednesday for a three-day visit to the semi-autonomous Danish island.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called Thursday for increased Arctic defense collaboration with the United States during a visit to Greenland, and firmly dismissed the US desire to annex the semi-autonomous Danish territory.
Thule Air Base was renamed Pituffik Space Base in April 2023 to “recognize Greenlandic cultural heritage,” and the site continues to handle missile defense, space surveillance and a system that detects ballistic missiles before they fly near U.S. soil.
