The significant rainfall the region has seen in recent weeks has been helpful in mitigating fire threats. But it could lead lead to downed trees.

"This is a much cooler event than the Santa Ana last week and temps across (the) coast and valleys should top out in the mid 60s to lower 70s,'' according to the NWS. "Winds will diminish in the late afternoon but with some offshore breezes through the canyons into Tuesday morning.''

A significant warming trend was already expected to impact Southern California this week, but the addition of gusty Santa Ana winds could make record highs a possibility.

The first Santa Anas of the season triggered a power shutoff for thousands of Southern Californians on Wednesday as utilities, firefighters and health officials were put on alert for impacts from the strong winds and unseasonably warm temperatures.

Gusty Santa Ana winds are expected in the Santa Clarita Valley throughout the week, with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s.
