President Donald Trump signed a sweeping executive order Monday morning that promises to crack down on “unreasonable or discriminatory” practices by foreign countries that result in Americans paying far higher costs for prescription drugs.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to reduce drug prices in the United States by between 30% and 80% with the aim of equalizing global prices.

The executive order being signed by Trump on Monday gives the administration 30 days to negotiate lower drug prices with the pharmaceutical industry. If there is no deal, the U.S. will tie domestic drug prices to the lower rates paid abroad, which is the so-called “most favored nation” policy.
