Red Cross begins operation to receive first Israeli hostages in Gaza
The Red Cross said on Monday it had begun an operation in the Gaza Strip to pick up the first of 20 surviving Israeli hostages from militant group Hamas, the initial phase of a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza that U.
US President Donald Trump will visit Israel “in the coming days,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog said Thursday, as the government is set to vote on a Gaza ceasefire deal with Hamas. Herzog’s office said in a statement that Trump is expected to arrive in Israel “in the coming days” amid “significant progress in talks on the release of hostages.”
Praise for President Trump’s diplomacy in brokering a cease-fire in Gaza has mostly focused on how he persuaded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to accept a deal. Many assume that Trump threatened to withdraw US support from Israel or otherwise pressured the Israeli leader into capitulating.
