The Trump administration has moved to freeze $6.8 billion in education funds nationwide, with at least $811 million of that from California. The grants, allocated by Congress, were intended for programs such as English language learning,

The freeze, estimated at $5 billion to $6.8 billion, affects more than 10 percent of federal K-12 education funding to states.

Programs that rely on the money were expecting it to be distributed July 1, but an Education Department notice said otherwise.
