Counties in north-central and northeast Kansas were placed under a flood watch May 18 as the area prepared for anticipated severe weather.

A mix of heat, moisture and powerful wind energy will bring a "moderate" chance for severe storms May 18 to most of central and northeast Kansas.

"The storms will quickly become severe and be capable of producing up to baseball sized hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes," the NWS said.
