The family of an unarmed Black man who was shot and killed by an Aurora police officer as he walked toward the officer after a physical altercation sued the police officer Monday.

Attorneys for Rashaud Johnson said he was unarmed and experiencing a mental health crisis and the responding officer escalated the situation.

Attorneys representing the family of an unarmed man shot and killed by an Aurora police officer called that shooting "the worst Aurora police killing since Elijah McClain" and have filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
