Jordan confirms its air force joined U.S. strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria. The U.S. launched these strikes on Friday to retaliate for the killing of three U.S. citizens by a Syrian gunman earlier this month.
The Syrian government did not comment directly on the extensive U.S. strikes targeting the Islamic State on Friday but said it was intensifying its own efforts to fight the group.
The retaliatory strikes came one week after an ISIS gunman killed three Americans, including two Iowa National Guardsmen and a U.S. civilian interpreter.
U.S. Central Command said the strikes were carried out by U.S. F-15 and A-10 jets, along with Apache helicopters and HIMARS rocket systems as part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which was also supported by Jordanian fighter jets.
