FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul on MSNTornado warning issued in southern MN as strong storms pass through
Tornado warnings have been issued for parts of far southern Minnesota and northern Iowa as strong storms passed through on Sunday.
While we have had a break in the action across the area this afternoon, shower and thunderstorm chances re-enter the forecast later this evening and into tonight, with the potential for excessive rainfall.
The top wind gust reported so far was a whopping 79 mph from a bowing line of storms that roared through overnight.
More storms are possible tonight, but conditions are expected to be dry and muggy during the afternoon hours. Dew points will be near 70, meaning any storms that may develop will have lots of energy for torrential downpours. This means ponding and urban flooding are also possible.
The National Weather Service has issued a watch that is in effect in western, central and southern Minnesota from 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday, and in the Twin Cities, southeastern Minnesota, and western Wisconsin from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.
