The tropical depression is expected to intensify into a stronger rotating system to become Tropical Storm Chantal by Saturday, forecasters said.
A weather system tracking the Southeast U.S. coastline has officially strengthened this Friday into Tropical Depression 3, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a high potential to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
The storm's is projected to move by Delaware throughout the day, impacting the entire state. The National Weather Service forecast is calling for showers and severe thunderstorms throughout the day. The heaviest rains are expected to hit between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The storm is expected to bring heavy rain to South Carolina through the weekend. Forecasters expect it to become a tropical storm on Saturday.
