The White House has announced an increased federal law enforcement presence in Washington, D.C., for at least the next week to combat crime.

The Trump administration will increase the federal law enforcement presence in Washington, DC, starting Thursday night, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. It comes just days after a well-known former Department of Government Efficiency staffer was assaulted in DC.

The White House said 450 officers from multiple federal agencies, including the FBI, were deployed in the nation's capital on Aug. 9 and Aug. 10.
