Kyiv said Russia intends to seize half of Ukraine by the end of 2026, beyond the formal territorial claims Moscow made to the U.S.

Donald Trump dodged questions regarding the deadline for imposing further sanctions on Russia, as the Kremlin continues to reject a ceasefire in Ukraine. The American president has repeatedly threatened to impose sanctions on Russia if he doesn't see progress in peace talks between Kiev and Moscow.

But halting progress, ever-more deadly drone attacks and unmoving negotiating positions seem to have taken their toll. On Thursday, Trump used a striking analogy to concede the warfare was nowhere near over, and that he did not, at that moment, feel it was best to intervene.

Both President Trump and Elon Musk made their first comments after their public feud erupted on Thursday. Musk appeared to back down after unleashing personal attacks against Trump. NBC News’ Garrett Haake reports.
