Finally, those planning to visit Europe may have to take an extra step before traveling, but when you’ll need to take that step remains unclear. The European Union’s European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is expected to take effect in May 2025, and will be required for any U.S. national looking to visit 30 European countries.
New requirement to travel to the United Kingdom in 2025 unveiled
The ETA is a new visa waiver required to travel to the United Kingdom for any trips that last six months or less for business or pleasure starting Jan. 8, 2025. This is not unlike the United States’ ESTA program, which requires incoming travelers to pay for an “authorization to travel, with security clearance done in advance,” CNN reported.
