Xcel Energy announced it is planning to shut off power Wednesday due to fire danger. Beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Xcel said 50,000 customers will be affected in Boulder, Clear Creek, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties. The power company said this Targeted Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is to reduce wildlife risk.
Strong winds and drought conditions are bringing red flag warnings on Wednesday, along with potential Xcel power outages across the Denver metro and Front Range.
