New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge will play for Team USA at the 2026 World Baseball Classic and serve as the squad's captain.Manager Mark DeRosa made the announcement Monday on MLB Network. Judge is the first player to be named to the team.

Judge takes over from the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout, who was captain at the 2023 tournament. The U.S. lost the 2023 championship game to Japan 3-2 as Shohei Ohtani struck out Trout, his then-Angels teammate, to end the game.

Of course, Mets fans found a way to make it about their team somehow being slighted again. The announcement graphic referred to Judge as "Captain America," a nickname Mets fans associate with former third baseman David Wright.
