China called the United States "extremely irresponsible" for "groundlessly suspecting" there are information security risks in China's drone systems, its commerce ministry said on Tuesday. China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes the U.

The Commerce Department requested that private companies comment on the implications of the rule by March. The final decision will fall to the Trump administration.

After US President Joe Biden’s administration announced on Thursday its consideration of a new rule that could restrict Chinese-made drones in the United States, China condemned the move as an “overstretching” of the concept of national security.

Last month, Congress passed a bill that will ban the sale of new drones by DJI or another firm, Autel Robotics, within a year if a US security review determines they pose an “unacceptable risk” to national security. Congress previously barred the Pentagon in 2019 from buying or using drones and components manufactured in China.

A spokesperson from China's Ministry of Commerce stated on Tuesday that the US is groundlessly suspecting unmanned aerial systems from China and other countries of posing information security risks without any factual basis,

The U.S. Commerce Department is evaluating new regulations that could limit or prohibit the use of Chinese-made drones, citing national security concerns. Public comments on the proposed rules are being accepted until March 4,
