The Cleveland Browns announced on Monday that 40-year-old Joe Flacco will start at quarterback when Cleveland opens the 2025 regular season at home on Sept. 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The team’s official release said Flacco “has used the offseason, training camp and preseason to his advantage” and will lead the offense into Week 1.
Kenny Pickett, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are all technically battling for a roster spot, although more and more momentum has been building that the Browns could potentially keep all four quarterbacks on their roster.
The Cleveland Browns returned to practice on Tuesday, and both Joe Flacco and Kevin Stefanski talked to the media.

Flacco served as the team’s QB late in the 2023 season to lead Cleveland to its second postseason appearance under head coach Kevin Stefanski and that familiarity likely helped the 40-year-old signal-caller secure the job. In his Tuesday press conference, Stefanski said Flacco has done really well in the offseason program and training camp.
