The New Mexico Supreme Court on Thursday struck down abortion restrictions by conservative cities and counties at the request of the state attorney general. The unanimous opinion reinforces the state’s position as having some of the most liberal abortion laws in the country.

The state Supreme Court unanimously ruled local ordinances attempting to restrict access to abortion services are invalid. The ruling comes after ordinances by Hobbs and Clovis, along with Lea and Roosevelt counties. The local laws were created following the U.S. Supreme Court decision to end the federal right to an abortion.
