MADHUBANI (ANI) – Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman paid tribute to Madhubani art by wearing a saree gifted by Padma Shri awardee Dulari Devi while presenting the Budget on February 1.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is delivering her eighth consecutive Union Budget, a record achievement. She presented the budget using a digital tablet encased in a traditional 'bahi-khata' style pouch.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that no income tax will be paid by people with income up to Rs 12 lakh. The rebate was earlier up to Rs 7 lakh income. With standard deduction at Rs 75,000, people with income up to Rs 12.75 lakh would not have to pay any tax. Earlier, the tax payable till Rs 12 Lakh was Rs 80,000.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman after her Union Budget speech on Saturday and praised her. In a video, PM Modi can be seen walking up to the Finance Minister's seat in Lok Sabha and greeting her.

As Nirmala Sitharaman reciprocated the gestures of her party members, Prime Minister Modi was seen rising from his seat and walking towards her.
