Why can't you eat dog meat but can eat other animals? This question is often asked on Chinese (and Western) social media. This is not about hypocrisy, prejudice, attitudes, or racism. This is a question of laws. In China, no one can legally slaughter dogs and cats or trade in dog and cat meat. The legal basis for the above conclusion is: Epidemic Prevention Law and Food Safety Law. However, the illegality of slaughtering dogs and cats and selling their meat does not make eating dog meat illegal.
