As parents of 7 children whom we’ve homeschooled for 23 years, I love pretend play. But I know it’s just that. PRETEND. My eight-year-old daughter put a box on her back today, and said she was a turtle. She crawled around on the floor. I said “There’s a turtle in my house!” But I didn’t think that she had actually become a turtle. And I’m not going to ‘affirm’ that she is really a turtle if she thinks that’s ’her truth’.
