The Kaua’i ‘O’o bird, native to Hawaii’s beautiful Kaua’i island, faced extinction due to human actions. The heartbreaking last call of the male bird was recorded in 1987. Habitat destruction, along with the threat of invasive species and diseases, played a devastating role in its decline.
