What's been happening in St Helens borough over the last month? 1. We opened our North Community Hub, bringing local services closer to residents and together under one roof. 2. Our gritters have been busy over the last month, with crews out 27 times since the start of December - using 1,359 tonnes of rock salt and covering 7,668km of road. 3. Our gritters have used 348 tonnes of rock salt since Saturday, covering over 1,068 miles of road during six grit runs. When our crews go out, they treat 178 miles of priority routes - around 39% of the entire road network - across seven primary gritting routes, including: ✅ All strategic routes ✅ Major bus routes ✅ Roads leading to fire/ambulance stations, and hospitals ✅ Roads on steep inclines and known trouble spots It's simply not possible to grit every road in the borough with the resources
